The National Weather Service (NWS) is reporting that winds from 30-45MPH with wind gusts up to 60MPH are occurring today in the San Angelo area. This is creating an extreme fire hazard with the humidity in the area. The NWS advises you to:

  • Not Drive on Grass
  • Avoid Outdoor Burning
  • Ensure nothing is dragging from your vehicle such as chains

In addition to this, semi-trucks can flip over while driving in wind speeds of 60MPH or more. It is advisable to maintain a safe following distance from semi-trucks and avoid driving beside another vehicle as the wind is blowing vehicles several feet between lanes.

If the wind kicks up enough dust, visibility will be limited. In some cases, visibility may be non-existent. Do not drive if it is not absolutely necessary. The NWS will send out dust storm warnings when visibility is confirmed to be dangerously low. Today is the perfect day to stay at home and do nothing if you are fortunate enough to be able to. If you must go out, use caution and give yourself plenty of time to get where you need to be. If there is any doubt of safety, pull over in a safe area and wait out the storm.

Power may go out during these high winds and as the Texas power grid is stressed. Portable chargers, keeping your cell phone charged to full and radios are helpful to stay informed on what is going on. To stay in the loop, be sure to subscribe to our newsletter and follow our Facebook page
